World Cyber Games 2008

For the last 3 days I’ve been at the MVEC (MidValley Exhibition Center) for the World Cyber Games. At first I joined for FIFA, but as Chapree (from multiplay) didn’t have an assistant, I ended up also helping him. Quite a good experience too as I found out that I was crap as a photographer :p

The event opened with the same old recycled thing, but it was quite awesome to see the fireworks and such. Went to the media center for interviews with teh sponsors and such. But as all the other medias followed the VIPs as they visited the display booths, me, chapree, Alicia (PCGM editor) and Fat Cat Lim (GameAxis co-editor) along with Eddy Han (Lowyat.net media relations) lepak at the interview room to eat free food lol. Anyways, my FIFA adventure ended in the first round when I was routed by [MyFes]d3mon|c 10-0… Thus I just hang around taking pictures for the first day. It was quite hectic as the first day has the most participants and can be quite rowdy. Many lost by default when they just didn’t show up. Shah also nearly did the same but he exchanged his slot with his fiancee, thus managed to play up to 2nd round where he lost to r0r1 Zero. The first day managed to spring many surprises when FIFA Asian champ si_jali lost to [MyFes]SilDes. It was so unlikely that it would happen that chances of Anwar Ibrahim becoming PM is higher. But happened it did. 2 more defending champ fell that day, r0r1 Alpha (Command and Conquer) went to teh lower bracket and the same thing happened to team hybrid (CS 1.6)

The next day went a bit early and saw Fat Cat Lim went emo at teh Samsung booth where they won’t let him play Guitar Hero there. He went back to his office and bring his own XboX360 along with his own personal guitar and proceed to play at a nearby booth. Chapree, having to meet NFS’s champ Forza had the fright of his life when the marshall decided that their match was to be fought on the main stage. Needless to say he was given the pwning of his life by forza. Shah came by to be interviewed by GameAxis as I wander around. It was during this time that I appreciated the media tag as I can go wherever I want and take any pictars without anyone can say anything about it.
The 2nd day also managed to spring some surprises as Forza lost to [M1]Heaven for the first time and was booted the the lower bracket. The same thing also happened to Warcraft III’s champ PaulYan. This year seems to be the year of upsets it seems.
Also the LYN++ (TF2) clan came, and I went back to Allen’s house to fix his PC. Arrived at my office around 11.40pm. Gile letih

The final day was eagerly anticipated as many wants to see if there was to be some new faces representing Malaysia at the Grand Final. I also join the rFactor F1 sim time challenge, but missed out on the Quad Core Intel PC by just 4seconds. Bugger. Also, Aoshi joined me as we scour around looking for something to do. we lepak at the front of the main stage as I was doing live updates for the Lowyat.net’s forum. Results were astonishing as only 1 defending champ managed to survive the final day
NFS Prostreet: [M1]Heaven finally get over his stage fright and won convincingly against Forza
Warcraft III: Serry beats the odd as he managed to overturn his lower bracket disadvantage and won in a 3 game thriller
Starcraft: JohnRambo defended his title against Marine in a Terran vs Terran battle. His micromanagement skills was so awesome that ppl watching the finals cannot believe how his base grew in just a matter of minutes
FIFA08: [w|nds]Vin beat his clan member [w|nds]loon4tic 4-2.
Counter Strike 1.6: LZ managed to forget their disappointing ESWC match to finally beat hybrid as inner rivalry coloured the match.
Sohai Dance Onlie: Don’t care shit about it

Anyways, from my 3 days of WCG, this is what I got:
- Official Gamer Shirt (won in an auction where surprisingly no one wanted it ^^;)
- Intel Shirts
- Intel Cap
- Intel screwdriver + flashlight (aka massive dildo)
- WCG Cap x3
- WCG neck strap (Media version)

Oh well, I still feeling peeved about missing out on the quad core. but there is still next time. I hope that I can get better results then. For now jya!
