Gonzo is dying?

gdhlogo
It is reported that Gonzo will now cut down it’s employees number from the current 130 staffs to just 30 in 5 years. The restructuring of the company is hoped to be able to drag it back from the brink of bancrupcity and at last, make profit, as told by Nihon Keizai Shimbun paper.

With the current plan, it’s highly unlikely that they can produce animes on their own, and they have also announced that their anime output will be reduced. Now it’s more likely that they have to do a co-op with other studios to survive.

Sword of URUK

Sword of URUK

The sequel for the game adaptation by Gonzo, Druaga no To, was streamed on the official site. Sword of Uruk follows up the events that transpires in Aegis of Uruk and would be premiering this January. The Namco/Bandai game adaptation ended in a cliffhanger last season, and the sequel is highly anticipated among the fans of the series. With Gonzo seemingly having money problems of their own, it’s remain to be seen wether or not this sequel would acheive what the original one has done in term of storyline and quality.

Times are hard, Gonzo feeling the pinch

Seems that the economic crisis does not spare even the Japanese studio. As reported by ANN

GDH, the corporate parent of the Gonzo anime company, has announced that it will be restructuring, and therefore reducing its annual output of anime from about eight projects to four in the next fiscal year. The decision was made during the board of directors’ meeting that was held on Monday. The company currently produces anime through its four internal studios and outsourcing to other companies. It plans to combine its internal studios under one division and “carefully” winnow its output from eight to four titles.
